Global One (G1)— India has demanded the immediate return of a fighter jet pilot recently captured by Pakistani forces.
Wing Commander Abhinandan is currently held in Pakistan after his fighter jet was shot down Feb. 27 for crossing the Line of Control — a de-facto border separating India and Pakistan in Kashmir — a region both countries claim.
The pilot was reportedly attacked by a mob of Pakistani villagers when his jet crashed. Pakistani forces reportedly saved him and then brought to custody.
Tensions between the two nuclear powers have escalated in recent days.
Earlier this week, India claimed to have bombed an alleged militant camp in Pakistan in retaliation for the Feb. 14 suicide bombing in Kashmir that killed scores of Indian soldiers The incident followed several aerial strikes from both sides across the Line of Control.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has recently called for talks to address the conflict.
