GLOBAL ONE NEWS (G1) — Serena Williams made history.
The 37-year-old became the oldest player ever to beat a world No. 1.
Playing in the quarterfinal round at the Australian Open, Williams was just 16 months removed from giving birth to her first child.
It was a grueling back and forth match with Williams downing Simona Halep (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) in a match that lasted nearly two hours.
After the match, Williams said, “It was a really intense match and some incredible points.”
Williams got off to a fast start in the first set — looking like she would easily dismiss the Romanian.
But Halep fought back to take the second set before Williams saved three break points to win the deciding set.
Williams said, “I am just a fighter, you know I just never give up.”
