GLOBAL ONE NEWS (G1) — Japan has recently announced the construction of a life-sized Gundam statue.
Technical supervisors and designers are now collaborating in building the giant robot which is estimated to stand at 59 feet (18 meters).
It will be unveiled at the Yamashita Pier in Yokohama during the opening of the 2020 Summer Olympics.
The project is reportedly the outcome of “Gundam Global Challenge” first launched in 2015 in which contestants from around the globe showcased ideas on creating life-size Gundam robots.
The “Gundam Factory Yokohama” statue will be the third of Japan’s creation.
Compared to the previous versions – which either had limited mobility or did not move at all – the statue will have a broader range of movement.
The first Gundam statue was revealed in 2009 while the latest version was shown last year.
