GLOBAL ONE NEWS (G1)—A young student in the Philippines has died after being hit by a train she allegedly didn’t notice approaching.

The following footage may be distressing to some viewers.

Police identified the victim as Sofia Jully Postanes, a resident of Cabuyao, Laguna on Nov. 8.

The 17-year-old victim reportedly had her earphones on when the accident struck.

Postanes was on her way to school and tried to cross the rail track as she headed toward a terminal.

According to UNTV, witnesses said fellow pedestrians tried stopping her from walking through the rail tracks as the train was fast approaching.

However, it did not look like Postanes heard the warnings.

Postanes died on the spot with severe head injuries.

According to GMA News, traffic authorities estimate nearly 4,500 road accidents involving pedestrians were recorded last year.

Authorities warned wearing of earphones while on public roads is “a total distraction.”
