GLOBAL ONE NEWS (G1)—Months after a federal judge ordered the U.S. government to reunite immigrant families separated, one 4-year-old Guatemalan girl fell through the cracks.
CNN reported ICE officials recently placed the child on a plane back to her country to be reunited with the father deported six months ago.
But there was only one problem — the father didn’t know she was headed home until 30 minutes before her flight was set to arrive in Guatemala City.
He was eight hours away and so the little girl had to spend the night in a shelter alone.
The incident has sparked outrage and frustration among advocates fed up with the chaotic reunification process.
Lisa Frydman of the nonprofit Kids in Need of Defense said, “After what the U.S. government has already done to these kids, it’s beyond outrageous and inhumane.”
She called what was happening a “government-inflicted mess and said, “This is totally and completely avoidable.”
