GLOBAL ONE NEWS (G1)— On Oct. 7, 26-year-old Katarina Rodriguez was crowned Miss World Philippines.
The former “Asia’s Next Top Model” contestant and MTV video jockey was one of 40 hopeful contestants, but the Davao City native ended up taking the title.
Born in Orlando, Florida to Filipino parents, Rodriguez grew up alternating her residence between the U.S. and the Philippines.
During the competition’s question and answer section, Katrina was asked how she would change people’s views of beauty pageants being an exploitation of women.
She responded saying beauty pageants are empowering and not competitions against each other, instead, they are for one’s self.
She added each individual woman is beautiful.
On top of winning the overall title, Rodriguez also won Miss Resorts World Manila, Miss Bench Body, Miss Cosmo Skin, Beach Beauty Challenge, Best in Long Gown and Miss Bluewater Day Spa.
She will go on to compete in the Miss World 2018 in Sanya, China in December.
