GLOBAL ONE NEWS (G1)—The Philippines national basketball team has been competing in the FIBA 3-on-3 Under-23 World Cup in China where they are facing some steep competition.

But that’s just fine by sports officials in the Philippines who want to make the 3-on-3 style of play more popular in their country and are looking to gain experience.

Al Panlilio said, “We are also just starting to actively participate in international competitions with the goal of getting the necessary experience and at the same time improve our world ranking.”

The squad is led by a talented player named Ricci Rivero who returns to international play after competing in the FIBA 3-on-3 Under-18 World Cup in Hungary in 2015.

Rivero is teaming up with Jeepy Faundo, R.J. Abarrientos and Rhayyan Amsali for the tournament that runs from Oct. 3-7.

The Philippine team is grouped in Pool C where they face Serbia, Slovenia, China and Turkmenistan.

Only the top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarterfinals.
