GLOBAL ONES NEWS (G1)—It’s been a rollercoaster week for the Lyceum of the Philippines University  (LPU) basketball team playing in the NCAA 94 men’s basketball tournament.

After cruising to a 92-76 win over the Mapua Cardinals Tuesday, Oct. 2, they were stunned by Letran in a heartbreaker on Friday, 80-79.

It’s reportedly only the second time LPU has lost in the elimination round the last two seasons.

Head coach Topex Robinson said his team was simply outcoached by Letran.

Bong Quinto of Letran spent much of the game in foul trouble but he hit crucial buckets down the stretch to give his team an 80-79 win.

He finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists including a score to put the Knights up 80-77.

It appeared LPU’s Jaycee Marcelino had knotted the score with a three-pointer, but officials later waived it off saying his foot was on the line.

The point was removed and the Pirates lost.
