GLOBAL ONE NEWS (G1) — Democracy still works best in the Philippines – that’s according to the majority of Filipinos who participated in the latest poll.
The Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey found that 84% – or eight out of 10 Filipinos – are satisfied with how democracy works in the country.
The result is higher than last year’s 78%.
According to reports, satisfaction with democracy was highest among “committed democrats” at 88%.
It is followed by “conditional authoritarians” at 80% and “indifferent” at 74%.
The SWS survey was conducted nationwide from Sept. 15-23 using face-to-face interviews among 1,500 adults.
The Philippine Star reported the September 2018 survey also revealed the majority of Filipinos prefer democracy than other kinds of government.
Meanwhile, the poll turned rounds of discussion online.
One even commented, “We don’t need democracy… what we need is discipline” while citing the Philippines as one of the most corrupt and poorest countries.
Other satirically called the Philippines’ form of government as “democrazy.”
