UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) – The NFL says it will suspend Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston for the first three games of next season.

In a statement on Thursday, June 28, the league said Winston is being punished for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.

According to the statement, Winston violated the policy by touching a female Uber driver in an “inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent.”

It concluded disciplinary action is necessary and appropriate.

Winston must also undergo a clinical evaluation and “cooperate in any recommended program of therapeutic intervention.”

The football player, who was the number one overall pick in the 2015 draft, will not appeal the ban, as it is reportedly part of a negotiated settlement.

He also apologized in a statement to the driver on Thursday, despite denying the allegations last year.

His first game back will be against the Chicago Bears in September.
