UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit this weekend, India was the only member country to reject China’s One Belt One Road Initiative.
The SCO is a Eurasian inter-governmental organization that is geographically the largest regional organization in the world.
During their annual meeting on Sunday June 10, a major issue on the docket was China’s One Belt One Road Initiative, an infrastructure strategy intended to increase connectivity and cooperation between member countries.
Support for the initiative was almost unanimous, with only India opposing. This stance is consistent with their past opposition of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which passes through the disputed Kashmir region.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India welcomes connectivity projects that respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two nations.
