UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Have you ever imagined what it might be like to visit planets outside our solar system?
NASA is making the dream a (virtual) reality with its new Exoplanet Travel Bureau.
The U.S. space agency recently launched the interactive experience on its website.
Visitors can explore artistic impressions of what our eyes might see if we were standing on the surfaces of alien worlds.
All of the exoplanets included in the virtual tour are real but they’re too far away for us to have any detailed photographs.
But astronomers have some clues about some of their features, like the blood-red sky of TRAPPIST-1d, or the massive size of Kepler-16b, as seen from its hypothetical moon, or the permanent darkness of a planet with no star.
You can also “travel” nearly 500 light-years away to Kepler-186f and see how the presence of an atmosphere changes the look of its sky.
Happy planet hopping!
