UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL – British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, to try and save Iran’s nuclear deal.

The meeting in Brussels, on Tuesday, May 15, will also include foreign ministers from Germany and France.

The European powers reportedly want to shield Iran from the effects of new sanctions, threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump. Last week, Trump said the U.S. will withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement and re-impose sanctions on Iran.

Prior to Tuesday’s meeting, Johnson said the U.K. sees the Iran deal as “vital for our shared security.” He also urged the U.S. to wait on making any more decisions concerning the deal.

Trump, however, recently said in a statement that the 2015 accord had failed to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions, calling it “defective at its core.”

According to Reuters, the talks will continue for the next two weeks.
