UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — U.S. first lady Melania Trump is recovering in the hospital after undergoing kidney surgery.

According to a statement from her office, the 48-year-old had surgery on May 14 to treat a benign kidney condition.

The White House said that the procedure was successful and that there were no complications.

The first lady is expected to remain at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, D.C. for the rest of the week while she recovers.

The procedure comes a week after Trump launched her official platform, called “Be Best” — an awareness campaign focused on children’s well-being, social media use and opioid abuse.

Trump’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said that the first lady “looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.”
