UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted out condolences following the capsizing of a ferry boat, Tuesday evening, May 15.

Dozens are missing and feared dead after a boat overturned in the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district.

There are conflicting reports on the actual number of passengers aboard the boat when it capsized.

According to the Hindustan Times, at least 40 mostly-tribal people are feared to have drowned.

The news outlet added that 10 passengers are thought to have swum to safety.

Survivors told authorities that a 20-member marriage party was also on board.

The Hans India, meanwhile, said 12 deaths were reportedly confirmed by officials.

The private boat belonged to Lakshmi Narasimha Travels.

Just last Friday, at least 90 tourists escaped harm when another private boat caught fire in the Godavari River.
