UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Arsène Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season.

In a statement, Wenger said, “I am grateful for having the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years.”

Arsenal amassed three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups over Wenger’s 22 years as manager.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis said Friday, April 20, that many of Wenger’s achievements will never be repeated.

“Arsène often said his aim was to leave the club in a better position than when he found it. Well, we are in a better place today than we could ever have imagined 22 years ago,” Gazidis said.

Gazidis says Arsenal’s players will fight for Wenger through the end of the season.

The club’s in sixth place in the Premier League, so its only chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League is to win this season’s Europa League.

The Europa League semifinals begin next Thursday.
