UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Former first lady Barbara Bush is in “failing health” and has decided not to seek additional medical care.
A Bush family spokesman revealed on April 15 that the 92-year-old has been in and out of the hospital for the past year.
The former first lady has decided she will not seek additional medical treatment and will “instead focus on comfort care.”
While Bush has been largely out of the spotlight for the last year, the extent of her health issues was not widely known.
According to CNN, Bush has a lung disease called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure.
Bush is the wife of former President George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, and mother of 43rd President George W. Bush.
Her husband, who suffers from a form of Parkinson’s disease, has also had health issues over the past few years.
