UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) – Romeo is desperate for love this Valentine’s Day.
He’s a rare catch, is shy and exotic, and enjoys swimming. And he might be the last of his kind.
Romeo is a Sehuencas water frog. Conservationists found him in Bolivia 10 years ago but no other members of his species have been found since then.
The little frog started calling for a mate soon after he was captured but each year his calls go unanswered.
But hope is not lost.
Match.com has made Romeo his own online dating profile to help the Global Wildlife Conservation and the Bolivian Amphibian Initiative raise $15,000 by Feb. 14 to — hopefully — find Romeo his Juliet.
The founder of the Bolivian Amphibian Initiative told ZME Science, “Romeo is a messenger, telling us: ‘Look this is happening to me, this is happening to my species, don’t let me go, don’t let my species disappear.’”
