UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Gal Gadot, known as Marvel’s on-screen Wonder Woman, recently wore a controversial dress to a New York award ceremony.
The ex-Israeli soldier turned actress wore a dress created by Lebanese designer, Elie Saab, to accept an award from the National Board of Review on Jan. 9.
Saab’s brand posted a photo of Gadot in the blue dress on its Instagram calling her “flawless.”
One comment, written by Lebanese journalist, Heba Bitar, criticized the Instagram post and questioned why Saab is happy to design a dress for an Israeli actress.
After backlash, the post was deleted without a response as to why.
Lebanon and Israel have been in a war since 1948, leading Lebanon to boycott its neighbor and when Wonder Woman was released, Lebanon banned screenings of the box office hit because of Gadot’s history as a former Israeli Defense Forces combat trainer.
